根據雅虎體育Tim Brown報導，前教士隊捕手Derek Norris(諾里斯)正打算和光芒簽約，他在春訓時效力於國民，本來預計開季將補上Wilson Ramos離去的空缺，不過在Matt Wieters(威特斯)到來後，位置被搶走的他，也只能黯然的離開華盛頓。
Norris在9天前被國民隊釋出，因為球隊和前金鶯的強打捕手Wieters簽下一紙合約，捕手戰力爆滿，最終國民從Norris、Jose Lobaton和Pedro Severino3人中，選擇釋出打擊最不理想的Norris。
Norris去年打擊成績下滑不少，儘管轟出14支全壘打，但三項打擊數據.186/.255/.328全都是生涯新低，這或許是國民最終決定放棄他的關鍵因素。
不過所幸，坦帕灣光芒剛好需要在開季尋找一名備用捕手，柳暗花明又一村，Norris至少不必擔心開季沒有工作了。
在多次被外界猜測將參加經典賽後，紅雀隊內野手Matt Carpenter今天終於表態將代表美國隊出賽，另外同隊的頂級新秀Alex Reyes也表示將加入多明尼加國家隊，幫助球隊完成衛冕。
「我一直都想參加看看世界棒球經典賽，而紅雀隊准許了我去參賽。」Reyes接受訪問時如此表示。
而Carpenter的加入則會給美國隊的野手戰力帶來顯著的提升，他能守三個內野位置，甚至也能支援中外野，多功能的守位將會強化美國隊的陣容深度。而優異的打擊能力，將能很好的補上球隊所需要的開路先先鋒人選。
紅雀總管John Mozeliak表示，在不受傷的前提下，樂於看到選手們去參加經典賽，這對他們來說是一個很好的經驗。
